Laksa Soup Seafood Steamboat Buffet @ Water World, Batu Maung, Penang

Steamboat buffet – no longer a new thing for most of the people nowadays. You pay a sum of money and you get to eat as much as you want. Varieties may vary from one restaurant to another. Laksa steamboat buffet – something special that I would like to introduce today. In another word, steamboat buffet with laksa soup as their soup base. Laksa steamboat buffet is available at Water World Restaurant, Batu Maung, Penang. If you know ‘Simpang Ampat Yam Rice’ at Batu Maung, it’s at the exact same restaurant. Go straight at the Coastal Highway, pass by Motorola and turn right at the crossroad with traffic light (where you’ll get to see the Mah Sing Southbay at your 1 o’clock direction). Go straight and turn left at the first traffic light. Go straight for approx. 200 meter, and turn left. The restaurant is the first shop lot that you’ll come across.

The price is RM42 for adult and RM20 for children of 7 years old to 12 years old. Standard operating procedure – every waste of food will be charged. This is good to ensure everyone is not simply taking and ended up wasting all the food.

I’m pretty amazed with the varieties of seafood that they provide over here. All are served in a small plates which made it easier to be placed on the table. If you want more, you can always let them know so that they can put more on the same plate.

The prawn is really huge (there will be a picture down here showing how big is the prawns). And oh boy, it’s really fresh and delicious – with or without the laksa soup. Ha-ha. Please make sure to always talk to the boss over there of any special-of-the-day. Sometimes they display those stuff pretty late, and you might thought it’s not served over there. For example – clams, mussels, crabs and many more.

There a few areas that serves the food, one at the main table where all the seafood are located. And 1 more table at the front entrance of the restaurant – where they serve condiments (the condiments are really good) and vegetables (like cabbage, baby corns). As you can see at the top picture, they do serve laksa noodle and beehoon as well – which is pretty good to be paired with the laksa soup.

A table full with foods! There’s a saying goes – Never leave a man hungry or horny. 😛 Suddenly thought of this saying though it doesn’t really relate to all this. Ha-ha. We get to pick what soup base that we want. Come on, since we’re here for the laksa steamboat buffet, of course we’re going all out for the laksa soup! We chose yin-yong (which is a standard term of having dual soup base – 1 normal clear soup, and 1 laksa soup). One thing to take note here is the drinks. We do noticed that if you opt for a jug of drinks (any drinks), it’s actually far more expensive than ordering them individually. As in, 1 jug could easily cost you RM18 and it’ll be approx. 7-8 servings. Meanwhile, ordering individually may save you a little and everyone get to order what they really like, instead of everyone chipping in for the same drinks.

Look at how gigantic the prawns are. I would say this is really delicious. I mean the prawn, not the laksa soup. Ha-ha. Honestly speaking, I don’t really like the laksa soup as there’s not enough taste of laksa in it. Perhaps the lack of sardine (which is 1 of the main ingredients for laksa soup base). Nevertheless, the seafood varieties here are truly awesome and fresh. Besides that, it’s a very good hangout place for families, friends and co-workers. Since Chinese New Year is coming, it’s good to have ‘closing work ceremony’ (a tradition where the employers and employees will be having lunch/dinner as a closing for the year (Chinese Calendar) and for a better upcoming year).
