Bachi Bites Food Truck @ Suntech Bayan Lepas, Penang

Food truck craze had landed to Malaysia for quite some time now, especially in Kuala Lumpur. Nowadays, we get to see quite a number of food trucks offering either food, drinks or both in Penang as well. Bachi Bites, a food truck serving sandwiches that I bumped into few days ago. Not entirely sure of their exact operating hours or their common location. The time I had a taste of Bachi Bites is in the morning and I bumped into them right in front of TM store (next to Suntech Bayan Lepas). Operated by 2 young gentlemen, Bachi Bites offers a variety of sandwiches, all served in a small mini truck.

Bachi Bites

From the picture below, you can see that it’s located at pretty strategic location – where there’s many working people that would love to have a quick and nice sandwiches to gear up their morning blues.

The menu is pretty straight forward, you can select a variety of sandwiches. I took Braised Chicken and it’s pretty good. The setup of the shop as well as the sandwich is pretty simple. As you can see in the picture, there’s a wood pallet that served as the base of the entire truck. With few metal rods combined together and set up with small glass container, this served as an area for their lovely pies. Other than the hand-made sandwiches, all the other choices of food that they offer here are ready-made. I believe it’s either they had it ready from home, or they get the supply from another suppliers, to sell them as sides.

Sorry that I didn’t take a picture of the Braised Chicken Sandwiches. I bought it to the office and had it while working on my work laptop (pity me). As mentioned earlier, the setup of the sandwich is pretty simple and yet delicious. The bun is those that you can purchased anyway in the supermarket, and they will have it toasted in their gas-stove-operated-oven (which save their renovation cost of adding any power supply to the truck). They’re pretty generous with the cabbage and that’s a good strategy. The fresh cabbage made the whole crunchy texture of the sandwiches. Then with few strips of sliced cucumber and carrot to add up the flavor and crunchiness. And here come the main character – the chicken. I believed the chicken was marinated previously and they had it baked/roasted in the oven. Taste pretty good I would say and value for money. It only cost me RM5.90 for such a delicious sandwich, and that’s a better deal than Subway.

Kim Poh Roasted Chicken and Duck Rice @ Golden Triangle, Penang

There had been quite a number of restaurants start their business in Golden Triangle Condominium. Golden Triangle is the newly-developed residential apartment by GSD Lands, which situated right in the middle of the intersection of Sg. Ara and Relau. Came across this restaurant few days ago – Kim Poh Roasted Chicken and Duck Rice. Didn’t know that it is a famous franchise of chicken & duck rice till I googled them. Located few shops from I Mum Mum (the famous franchise of Pan Mee).

The interior is pretty simple and cozy. Though some of the times there might be tons of customer, but we never fail to find a good table spot to have our meals. The front is where they sell all the chicken and duck and you’ll see a drink corner at the back of the restaurant.

Here’s the back area of the restaurant where they serve the drinks. Just grab a seat first and the waiter/waitress will come to your table to take your order. Usually whenever I go to any chicken rice shop, I’ll order breast meat together with roasted pork (siew yok) if there’s any. Perhaps will top up with eggs as well.

As you can see above, the menu is pretty straight forward and you can’t go much wrong with it. If you fancy to try out some new drinks, you can go for their signature drink – Lemon Jelly Ice. I didn’t take any photo of it since this trip was my second time being there. Lemon Jelly Ice is pretty refreshing and delicious. Try it out and see it’s to your liking

Here’s my order – breast meat chicken rice together with eggs. Truly like the chicken rice over here. What made it so special is the sauce that they’ve put on top of the rice and chicken. I would say it’s sweet hoisin sauce perhaps? The rice smells really nice, and the chicken is juicy and tender. The chili sauce (they put in a small container and you can take as much as you like) is really good and honestly, a good chili sauce can make or break a good chicken rice. Over here, it’s excellent combination – the sauce, the chicken, the eggs, the rice and the chili sauce all dance together in perfect rhythm. The price is pretty cheap as well. What you see above cost me RM5.60 (together with an Iced Chinese Tea). Try out Kim Poh Roasted Chicken and Duck Rice and let me know what do you think.
