Food truck craze had landed to Malaysia for quite some time now, especially in Kuala Lumpur. Nowadays, we get to see quite a number of food trucks offering either food, drinks or both in Penang as well. Bachi Bites, a food truck serving sandwiches that I bumped into few days ago. Not entirely sure of their exact operating hours or their common location. The time I had a taste of Bachi Bites is in the morning and I bumped into them right in front of TM store (next to Suntech Bayan Lepas). Operated by 2 young gentlemen, Bachi Bites offers a variety of sandwiches, all served in a small mini truck.
From the picture below, you can see that it’s located at pretty strategic location – where there’s many working people that would love to have a quick and nice sandwiches to gear up their morning blues.
The menu is pretty straight forward, you can select a variety of sandwiches. I took Braised Chicken and it’s pretty good. The setup of the shop as well as the sandwich is pretty simple. As you can see in the picture, there’s a wood pallet that served as the base of the entire truck. With few metal rods combined together and set up with small glass container, this served as an area for their lovely pies. Other than the hand-made sandwiches, all the other choices of food that they offer here are ready-made. I believe it’s either they had it ready from home, or they get the supply from another suppliers, to sell them as sides.
Sorry that I didn’t take a picture of the Braised Chicken Sandwiches. I bought it to the office and had it while working on my work laptop (pity me). As mentioned earlier, the setup of the sandwich is pretty simple and yet delicious. The bun is those that you can purchased anyway in the supermarket, and they will have it toasted in their gas-stove-operated-oven (which save their renovation cost of adding any power supply to the truck). They’re pretty generous with the cabbage and that’s a good strategy. The fresh cabbage made the whole crunchy texture of the sandwiches. Then with few strips of sliced cucumber and carrot to add up the flavor and crunchiness. And here come the main character – the chicken. I believed the chicken was marinated previously and they had it baked/roasted in the oven. Taste pretty good I would say and value for money. It only cost me RM5.90 for such a delicious sandwich, and that’s a better deal than Subway.
